Imilap.com is a matrimonial and marriage site, specifically focused on helping Indian singles find their perfect partner for marriage and lifelong companionship. Imilap.com advertises itself as the perfect opportunity for Indian singles to overcome the traditional difficulties associated with dating in order to meet the perfect marriage partner. With free trial membership available to all users to check out exactly what Imilap.com has to offer before they subscribe, they can get a feel for what Imilap is all about without spending a cent. That said however, although Imilap has a number of good features, overall the site lacks a lot of the most important elements that we expect to find on modern online dating sites and has a number of flaws that may make it unsuitable for some members.

Imilap.com suffers, on the whole, from what appears to be a lack of investment in site design and features. The site itself is old fashioned in appearance and quite difficult to navigate effectively. Much of the text on the site is in a range of non-matching fonts and some of the language used is outdated and inappropriate (such as, for example, ‘handicapped searches’ and ‘blinds searching’ for those with sight impairments). The handling of these particularly sensitive features was ill considered, and we felt could be improved and presented in a more tasteful manner. Similarly, the exact purpose of the network of associated sites is difficult to determine until they dig a little deeper, and could certainly be better explained, especially for the benefit of new users.

As well as the visual difficulties already mentioned, Imilap is also missing a few key features that we consider extremely important to modern online dating. One of the most important omissions from the site is the absence of an instant messaging chat feature that has become a commonplace element of most of the sites we review (both in this category, and generally). The absence of this feature not only means that users are restricted to the stunted communication that is allowed by the on-site email exchanges, but also that the site  is not able to include such features as audio or video messaging, for example. Additionally, the quality and size of the images that can be hosted on an individual’s profile certainly fails to compete with that allowed on other sites in this category, particularly those that have achieved higher results in our reviews. Finally, we were a little concerned by the dubious safety and security arrangements with Imilap, as users are encouraged to provide their full contact details on their profile if they have premium membership (indeed, this is seen as a selling point of the premium membership option). We disagree, feeling that it is imperative that users are encouraged to take care over the distribution of their personal information when dating online.

Whilst Imilap.com does have a couple of features which are good, such as the one click search function (which delivers a selection of results based on one simple search criterion), and the desired partner profiles, overall, the site does not live up to its billing. Similarly, we struggle to see how users of Imilap get access to the ‘millions’ of Indian singles that the site purports to have as clients – when we logged on at peak time, there were just 20 users online.
