Matrimony.org brings to market a service designed to supplement the traditional methods of matchmaking in the Islamic community, providing an opportunity for young single Muslims to meet each other (or be introduced by friends or family) for the purposes of forming wholesome and long-lasting Halaal marriages. Muslim Marriage Link, the brand name of this service, operates internationally, allowing users to make use of a range of services to get to know other single Muslims online. Whilst the service does have a number of positive elements, it didn’t quite make it into our top ten in this category for a number of reasons.

Becoming a member of Matrimony.org is relatively straightforward, requiring only an average length member questionnaire and profile photograph. Once signed up, users can begin searching immediately by using either  one of the simple ‘quick search’ options (which contain predetermined search criteria, such as ‘Who’s Online’ or ‘Featured Members’) or by creating a custom search using the Basic Search function. Whilst the search functions themselves were good, in that they returned fairly focussed, relevant results, the real problem with Matrimony.org was that there just weren’t as many results as we expected. When we searched members who resided in the UK for example, only 130 results were returned, suggesting that the site wasn’t as popular as suggested by its extravagant home-page claims. As all online dating is, in our experience, a numbers game, it’s disappointing to see a site like this one charge so much ($80 for annual membership, or around $10 a month for shorter-term subscriptions) for what is actually very little chance of finding a partner.

That said, you only need to find one individual, and, as the site grows, it’s possible that the number of profiles may improve. If you do find the perfect match on Matrimony.org, there is a range of features that you can use to get in touch with them and take your relationship further. Users can use the live chat function to chat to an individual in real-time, send them an email or use the discussion boards to contact a wider group and chat about a range of different topical issues. Whilst the features are good, they don’t stand up to those available on the sites that rate higher in our reviews of sites in this category, which is why it failed to make it into the top ten. Additionally, the appearance of the site, and its ease of navigation both leave a lot to be desired, and we think that if Matrimony.org is going to be successful in the future, some improvements definitely have to be made.
