4 Things to Avoid when Choosing a Muslim Dating Site

Muslim dating sites allow you to meet like-minded single Muslim members from around the world. However, there are a few things we think you should watch out for when deciding on which site to use. Here are 4 things which you ought to avoid when looking for your ideal Muslim dating website…

1: The wrong location

A number of Muslim dating sites are focussed on a specific geographic location. This is great if you live in that area, because it means the members will all be nearby, but you’ll probably be less successful finding dates if you live elsewhere (unless you’re willing to travel). We recommend visiting several dating sites and performing a search on each. This will give you a good idea as to how many members live near you, and you can then compare and contrast the results. Many sites have Muslim members from around the world, which is a great way to meet single people near you, or further afield if you don’t mind long-distance relationships (or wish to move, or have your partner move to join you).

2: Religious disputes

It’s sometimes the case that members disagree. This could be on almost any topic, of course, but when strongly-held religious views clash, they can quickly escalate. It’s important to remember that people have many different views on their faith, they practice it in different ways, and a dating site isn’t necessarily the best space to debate the nuances of religious practice. Some sites will encourage discussions through their forums, which may be monitored by admin staff, but others may not. If you ever feel under threat (verbal or otherwise) on a dating site, you should get in touch with the customer support team, who should help. When looking for a suitable Muslim dating website, we recommend exploring several to get a feel for how they handle disputes, or just to better grasp the general vibe and approach of a site and its members.

3: Scams

Unfortunately, when it comes to matters of the heart (and wallet), there will always be people who will try to make a quick bit of money out of unsuspecting members. Muslim dating websites should offer advice on how to stay safe, and away from scammers, when online. Check their FAQ pages for details. Our general rule is: don’t give out your information to people you don’t trust. If something feels amiss, take a minute and think about your options, and whether or not the information you’re providing could be used against you. Also, never give out your bank details or passwords online.

4: Low membership numbers

One problem you may encounter, is low membership numbers, or low numbers in your area. Again, it’s worth performing a search to check how many active members live near you. Certain sites will show you when members are online, or how long it’s been since they were last online, which is a good indicator of active membership. You might also be able to specify “active recently” when you perform a search. Also, watch out for incomplete profiles and abandoned profiles, which you’ll be unlikely to receive responses from. If you’re hoping to use a location-specific site, you might find that membership figures are lower than more generic sites, so this may be less of a concern.

The lowdown…

There are several mistakes and problems to avoid when looking for a Muslim dating site, but generally speaking we think an ounce of common sense goes a long way. Perform a few searches to check out your dating potentials, avoid arguing online if possible, and watch out for potential scams. If you’re ever in doubt, ask the site’s customer support team for help.
