The same thing happened to me as happened to an earlier reviewer. I took out a 3 month subscription and when that ended I automatically went on to a monthly rate of £13. At the time, their subscriptions were approx. something like: 1 month = £20 and £20 thereafter. 3 months = £40 and £13 a month thereafter. 6 months = £60 and £10 a month thereafter and so on.

After about 3 months on this rate my account was suddenly downgraded. At the same time I received an email from PayPal saying payment collections had been cancelled BY SINGLE MUSLIM. When I contacted SM, they claimed my account was downgraded due to non-payment. They said they'd tried to collect through PayPal twice but were unsuccessful. They even gave me dates which they claimed were the dates they'd tried to collect payment. These dates were AFTER the date PayPal had emailed to say payments had already been cancelled by SM.

Eventually after several emails to them, including showing them the email from PayPal proving the error was theirs and not mine, they agreed to upgrade my account back to gold membership but only on their new HIGHER rate! Even though they accepted the error was theirs, they claimed all the rates had increased and they couldn't put me back on my original terms. To make up for it they gave me one month for free but it was little consolation considering the way I'd been treated.

My main reason for choosing Single Muslim was that it seemed to have a higher number of women from the UK including the region where I live, compared to other muslim sites. They're able to attract more women to their site simply because women don't have to pay to subscribe. Unfortunately this also means lots of people sign up just to waste time. There are some genuine people on there but also a high percentage of people who are on there (for free) just to kill time. It's not unusual for a person to have multiple female profiles, including men who set up female profiles for themselves!

Another annoying thing which most of these sites suffer from is that not many people de-activate their account when they leave. So there's all these redundant profiles floating around which inflate the membership figures. Even if someone hasn't logged onto their profile for a number of years, it's still counted as a live account.

So when you run a search on the sort of person you're looking for, it might return 100 profiles that match what you've entered but when you look through the profiles you can see that a high percentage haven't logged on for several months or more, meaning there's no point in contacting them.

Having used the site for some time, it did make me question whether there was any truth to their "success stories".

I would still recommend trying this site. If you're a woman you've got nothing to lose because it's completely free for you. Although from some of the horror stories I've heard from women who used the site I'd proceed with caution. If you're a man, I'd say don't bother paying for a lengthy subscription thinking it'll save you money. They'll scam you into paying a higher amount sooner or later.

Oh and if you're wondering, yes I'm still single!! I did meet a few women from the site but most of them weren't anything like how they portrayed themselves on their profiles.

In summary, I would not recommend Single Muslim to a friend.
